Default Battling to tune in to TVE 11727 on HOtbird 8

Hi
Im struggling to find spanish channel 11727 Vertical on hotbird 8.

I put a wet cloth over monobloc on the astra side and made sure I got a good signal for Hotbird on the hotbird LNB (mainly the horizontal ones showed good signal) and none on Astra. So I feel fairly happy im pointing the satellite at hotbird.

But still I dont see any of the spanish channels!

Whats going on?! Could my receiver be deceiving me when it says it can see Hotbird?

I set the LNB Frequency to 10050, and got a good signal for 11727 vertical, but then the receiver channel search still didnt show me TVE.

I searched google and a listing for Hotbird 8 said TVE is on 11785 H - contradicting what everyone else says. But I cant tune into 11785 H for some reason.

Hi,

for a start, you have set the LNB frequency wrongly. It should be set to universal, and the two lnb frequencies should be 9.75GHz and 10.6GHz.

Correct that, and rescan. Then check a channel, and confirm that its on the correct frequency for the satellite that you think it should be.

kingofsat has a channel search facility to check freqs easily.

I have checked 11727V on both my receiver and on kingofsat, both confirm that TVE is there, can watch it right now.

It is the forward error correction ratio. On most receivers it is set automatically.

You don't need to know about it, but it doesn't hurt to. On weaker satellites, that figure can determine whether a transponder can be rceived or not with a particular dish size. 2/3 is better than 3/4 is better than 5/6 etc.

Just tried those settings.

I can get like 11258H for example with a strong signal, but 11727V has no signal.

Why is it only a few channels are good and the others have no signal.

Please post some of the channels you're viewing, and frequencies, do not trust your receivers channel list but have a look at the logos on the screen.
Check the link:

Also check if you're getting any of the FTA channels on 13E:

You need to do what I already said to confirm the correct satellite :-

Also with the monoblock, Hotbird is usually Diseqc1.0 position 1, and Astra 19 position 2. Looking from BEHIND the dish, the Hotbird LNB is on the LEFT.

thanks again Robbo, Ive got Hotbird tuned in nicely now.
I used kingofsat like you said and kept shifting south until I hit a matching satellite. The Maplin decoder lies about satellite IDs!!

Problem was Hotbird is only a 1mm twist on my sat mounting pole, so its hard to distinguish from Astra, and the signals are very strong.
