The only ones that work 100% are the ones that VM give to their subscribers. The rest are prone to channels going down at any time or, indeed, the system being terminated completely.
Afaik, neither the KV or the SV boxes have a complete channel lineup due to recent troubles. |

![]() It's fair to say that the order in which you can expect hassle-free TV is: 1. Sub VM unit 2. Private c/s using sub VM smartcard(s) 3. Public c/s using VM smartcards 4. ROM180 MOSC (not a current option) If you're thinking of a private c/s, expect to do some work in order to gain the required info to do it and also be prepared to log traffic as you cannot exclude counter measures designed to upset the server s/w from time to time. If you have used open source s/w you can then modify it to allow for any new ecm/emm data and recompile it. If you need to rely on the author (or support group) to modify your chosen server s/w, they'll no doubt resolve the issue, but how long that takes is out of your hands.. If you're thinking of a public server, expect to see downtime following counter measures or police raids (mainly the latter at the moment)..This kind of solution leaves you powerless when/if the server dies..The only advantage with them is that they are more likely to know how to resolve counter measures to get the server online again. However, this doesn't stop them from making the solution exclusive to new boxes (for another fee).... I personally prefer option 2, but then again I would

A smartcard, on the other hand, is a small standalone encapsulated silicon chip. No databusses, no easily dumpable chips. In theory you can decapsulate and probe the internals of the smartcard chip in the same way as you would probe the PS3 circuit boards but its a whole different skill level ! |

Very true, I suppose I should of qualified that by saying nothing is 100% !
With a subscription though, at least you dont have to rely on a 'forum' fix that may or may not happen sometime soon. VM will usually fix the fault fairly quickly ! |
