I need to buy a new multi-function printer preferably wireless/lan.
Does anyone know if there is a web site that lists printers that accept compatible cartridges. It's a pain finding a printer and then looking for what cartridge it takes then having to check if there are compatible versions. Cheers |

Kodak are making a very big thing about how cheap their inks are. Might be worth checking out their printer range.

I have always bought epsons. My present one,a R300.I have had for about 5 years.
To replace the 6 cartridges costs about £6.50.(compatables) With epsons the cartridges are just ink tanks, the printhead is built into the printer. If the print head fails the printer is knackerd. If it fails in the guarentee period and you have used compatable cartridges, epson may not honour the guarentee. That said I have never had one fail in the guarentee period. And I have had a few. Things may have changed now.I would say do a bit of googling. Computer shopper often do printer tests.

I always buy Epson's as the ink is insanely cheap. I bought 12(3 sets of cartridges) for £6 a while back, which is about 50p/cartridge (with about 200-300 page yield as well)
Now you can buy them for £5.25 for 12 which is an awesome price for ink(and quidco cashback) 12 INKS FOR EPSON SX110 SX115 SX215 SX218 SX410 SX515W | eBay UK Thats 44p each!(or slightly less via quidco) If you're set on buying genuine ink cartridges, I'd get a a Kodak printer, but otherwise I'd get an Epson. Also, I compared genuine ink to compatible ink using my eyes(ie: no massive analysis), and from looking you really could not tell which ink was used(The same photo's were printed - one from my new printer with genuine cartridges, and one from a friends) If you consider that each ink yields around 300 pages, then that's 0.59p/set or 0.15p/cartridge. When you can get paper for around £2.80 for 500(Asda 80gsm), then you're looking at 0.56p/sheet of paper, and 0.59p(max) for the ink used to print on the paper. That's 1.15p/page That's the main reason why I haven't even considered a laser printer, considering it's dead cheap to use inkjets(provided you use compatible/refillable kit) I'd be tempted to get one of the printers with in built wireless. They don't cost much more, and it means you can print wherever you are in the house. It's really good for being lazy. Case in point - I have a wireless printer in my room and it's literally a 5 foot walk to the printer(where I would have to connect my USB cable to the laptop etc...) The yield I get may be because of the fact that I have an SX600FW. This is supposedly very efficient on ink any way Quote:

.I have always bought compatables.I only ever had one printer fail on me.The head failed on a stylus 600 photo. It was nothing to do with using compatables.I had it a long time and I think that it was just worn out. A friend tells me that ALDI are selling an epson all in one printer for £49 pounds. PS.I think that he said ALDI.It was in the pub last night.

There are some deals on eBay as well:
Epson | eBay UK The SX218 is not wireless enabled, despite the sellers saying so. I'd also avoid printers that don't use T0711,T0712,T0713,T0714(T0715 multipack) ink, considering that the inks for those printers are relatively cheap for genuine ink, but can cost 7.6 times more than compatible ink for printers that use T0715 ink. That's one of the reasons why I haven't bought a printer that auto duplexes

An update, I've bought an Epson SX515W. The seller accepted an offer of £45. (A replacement for my cx3600 which survived a few years of compatibles. The only think it was incompatible with was a glass of drink. Children are so generous these days!)
The thread went on a tangent I did not expect. Basically, I needed a replacement printer. I was not prepared to buy one which does not take compatibles. (Arguments above.) Checking whether a printer accepts meant I had to check what cartridges it uses and then search on the site that I buy cartridges from if those are available in compatible form. A long winded process. Opening printers in shops sometimes sets the alarm off! For anyone else interested in selecting a printer that accepts compatibles, the ink lab lists printers first then the available cartridges. I bought from someone else who is considerably cheaper. |

Here's the search I use: http://shop.ebay.co.uk/i.html?rt=nc&...=p3286.c0.m283 Oh, and 12 ink cartridges have became cheaper in price, at £4.38 for 12 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/12-INKS-EPSON-...item3a65f2f41b Im assuming they have a £5.25 price to try and get more results in the searches
