Default a little advice on my build?

Hey guys, I'm looking to upgrade my pc, some components died, not exactly sure whether it's the psu or the 12 volt rail on the mobo but I figure rather than replacing one and finding out that I then have to replace the other I'll do an upgrade.
It's been awhile since my last upgrade, apart from the gpu, 5 yrs almost so I'm looking at getting a new mobo, psu and ram.
My hdds are still good, my gpu is still pretty awesome for high end games.
I have been looking around, mostly on aria and I've been trying to decide between an amd phenom II 6 core (the decent ones with L3 cache not the 840's or anything) or and intel i5. I've never really gone with an intel cpu before as amd tend to offer better value for money and I am on a meger budget of between 200-300 including mobo, psu and some memory.
So what chips would you guys recommend and what mobo should I pair it with?

My basic lineup at the moment is
AMD Phenom II X6 1055T 2.80GHz (cpu) £55
MSI 880GM-E41 AMD 880G (mobo) £55
750W Arianet Black Series (psu) £40
8GB Mushkin Blackline LV (DDR3) £75

throw in my 1024mb radeon hd5670 graphics card, my four sata hdds and my rw drives, fans and heat blower etc. from my current setup and I hope it should be able to take anything I throw at it, what do you guys think? I used to play alot of pc games, not so much anymore but I don't want to lose the capability. Also, my old mobo had xfire capability whereas the board listed above doesn't.
Would I beneift a great deal from going for a different cpu or mobo? I'm pretty certain the psu is more than sufficient. All advice is appreciated.
Thanks guys
Rob

Ye thats not to bad for what u want to pay,i not much of a amd guy but what i can work out that cpu is like a low end i5 and 1/2 the price so bang for your buck that be a v nice setup might need to upgrade the gpu rdy for battlefeild 3
u might want to check the PSU make sure it has the right leads and enough of um i always like to get a nice PSU u get a 3yr+ warranty and u get alot more stability

Default Re: a little advice on my build?

Thanks for the reply, and advice. I think my gpu should handle bf3, prob not at top settings but on standard settings. The card handles itself well enough that I haven't felt the need to overclock it yet, BF3 is predicted to be able to run on a dx10 compatable 512 card (although that will certainly be the bare minimum settings) so I should scrape it with a dx11 1gb card but I am considering upgrading it, just don't want to spend the money lol. Will prob be the next thing on my upgrade list though. It's one of the reasons I'm wavering abit on the mobo choice because there's no xfire compatability which means rather than using two lower cost cards I will have to fork out more at once for a higher end card
