when i put a dvd into the dvd drive, it opens up window media player, then a little note pops up, saying more or less you dont have the dvd decoder do you want the web to take you to it, more or less

Use vlc player. It is the best one

Maybe you haven't got the necessary codecs to play the DVD, Do a Google for free codec packs there are plenty of sites to get them from.

Correct!!!

Download the the Klite codec pack.

Or you can always download Power DVD as well as that is a brilliant software for DVDs.
