Default Cables pulled from Sky Dish

Hello
Please can you help me. Some drunken idiots have yanked the cables out of my Sky dish on the side of my house. I've had a look but I don't know how to reconnect them.

I can see there are some screw connectors which presumably hold the cables in the dish. I've tried simply pushing the cable into the holes and screwing the connectors but it's obviously more complicated than that!

Please bear with me as I really don't know how these things work.

The metal wire at the end of the cable - is it likely this has been snapped when the cables were yanked out? I can't see how to investigate inside the bit of the dish which the cables go into.

If anyone can post an idiots guide to fixing this I would be very grateful.. Sky want to charge me £65!!!!!

Thank you
Lucy

It is possible that the LNB arm could have been bent, or the dish pulled out of alignment or the dish deformed.

Assuming that didn't happen for the moment, you should put new connectors onto the cable ends and screw them back on. If that doesn't work, then further investigation will be required.

Here's a guide on how to put f -connectors on

where abouts are u roughly
the plugs on the lnb screw off
and screw on to the coax
then screw back on to the lnb
already attached to the coax
unplug receiver firstly
then unscrew f plugs of the lnb
then get the end of the coax and
make sure all the braid runs back
along the outside of the coax
and none of it is touching the
center core of the coax
then screw the f plugs on to
the end of the coax tightly
then screw the f plugs back on to the lnb tight
then switch receiver back on and try
if every thing is now working seal the f
plugs on the lnb so no damp can get in and short it out
with amalgamating tape or silicone sealant
but please don't use electricians tape

yeah dont do it with the box powered up as the coax supplies voltage to power the lnb

Default Re: Cables pulled from Sky Dish - 'Thanks'

Thank you for your replies - I really appreciate your help.

I will have another go following your instructions. Can I just ask - once I've got the F connectors on the ends of the cables - do they just screw into the the sockets in the dish? I don't need an extra part for them to screw into?

Thanks

The solid central copper core of the cable acts as the central pin of the connector, the outer part that screws on, is the ground. Yes, assemble as per the guide, and screw on to the LNB connectors. When screwing on, align the core with the hole in the lnb connector, push in a bit then screw it on.

Also note that there is rain cover which slides down to cover the bits that you screw onto. Push it back in to expose the terminals. Make sure to pull it back down when you are done. There are ripples on the sides to help you grip when sliding it down.

you could try calling skys bluff and say you are cancelling your subs because of damage, I did this when a HD box failed a couple of months out of warranty and they wanted to charge £200 for a new one but I got a new 1 when telling them I was cancelling.
