i keep getting this message, changed lnb and cable with no luck. Is the box knackered ?

Can you try another receiver, on the set up, to see if it's working and pointing at a satellite?

Once you are certain it is nothing to do with the cables/lnb, have a look at this LNB fault, Technomate 5300D+ Super May be the same issue.
