Hi just wondering what is analogue sat and how is it different to sky and all of that?

The modulation of the carrier is analogue rather than digital.

Yesterdays technology, and very few channels available now, some still on 19E, but not for much longer.

It is all but dead in Europe, will be done by the end of this year. With it you do not get pixilation, you either have a picture or not, it is not as good as digital.

In some ways it was better than digital- mainly it's abilities for fast moving, busy images - generally analogue was far better there - most digital gear still can't handle fast moving busy imagery or slow moving [pans etc..] & breaks down with the relatively narrow bandwidth the image information has to bottleneck through & the whole lossy compression can drop quality dramatically from the crisp still images to deal with the high throughput .... it is getting better with faster processors & better tricks to fool the eye etc..

The human brain & eyes can't really handle moving images that well - once you move or your view moves, you retain far less detail in your vision & memory of what's there x periferal vision plays a big role instead - Digital compression does a similar thing [in a way]- the trouble is, a TV with fast moving digital imagery is doing it for you - not you - so you are watching a still flat TV screen but with moving images with that problem ..

I wish they (MPEG) had gone down the non lossy compression route tbh-

I still say give me analogue over digital any day. sparkles were less annoying than pixilation and jumping.

You should have seen D2MAC, that was really nice.

It gave you a grainy crappy picture which was marginally better than Analogue PAL transmissions, but the sound was something else

It was a nice format which i was sorry to see go

Yes it was very good OK all the Nordic channels we thought we were the greatest when we had it. The good old days OK.

Analogue was good for aligning a dish fade in fade out picture.
