We have had 1 before which had this problem. It's a strange one because we took another box to the house which was working and had been for some time. Put it on and it worked for a few days then the same problem appeared. The box we took from there worked when used in the other house after a flash.
Today ( funnily enough) the same thing happened and again we took along a working box however this time the box immediately showed the "Invalid Mac" when we took the other box back to the house in which the box had been working we got the "Invalid Mac" here too.
I was bit hasty in saying reflash as we haven't tried it yet on either of these boxes ( we had on the previous one) but I'm off the opinion that it's either a bad flash or a problem with the Mac on certain Modems.
A bit of research and it could be a couple of things.
1. Some Modems do not recognise Macs that don't begin 00
2. Some Modems will not allow non permitted Macs access.

Now I don't understand why a previous working box/modem should suddenly have any of the above problems but I also don't understand why 2 boxes used at the same place should suddenly develop the same fault.

I'll let you know how we get on.

Oh and your quite right I should have said "try a reflash" as I'm not sure it will solve the problem.

Edit. I also cant see how the flash is the problem as the box we took along was working fine and had been for some time. So I'm thinking by a process of elimination that the problem stems from the Modem.

Hi William, can you tell me what Modem you are using? Are you connecting directly to the Modem or through a Router? Also do you have a Noise Blocker on the Cable line before it connects to the Modem.
Thanks

If the box has a invalid mac the box needs to be sent back, as Gadgfiend has said above, you cannot fix this error its a Manufacturer fault on some boxes, and only they have the tools to fix this problem, i suggest he takes the advice and send it back to supplier, before he does further damage that will prob be unrepairable.

The invalid mac is an epprom problem and no amount of flashing will solve the problem.

Impossible for a user to fix this problem, they dont have the equipment to do this.

I'll bow to your superior knowledge. As I say we had 1 before that we got working. And the fact that we took a working one along that immediately developed the same fault made me assume that the problem was not in fact an unfixable problem but rather a local one.
I suppose it could have just been a coincidence that both boxes developed the same problem at the same house at the same time.
Thanks youv'e saved me a lot of time messing about with them.
