PS3 Won't read Discs?

My PS3 is not reading the games discs, I put the discs it and it keeps making like a clicking sound but is not recognise the game and the icon does not appear in the game section.

I bought the PS3 in February 2010 so it is just over a year old so not sure where I stand with Sony reapiring it or how much it will cost.

you are looking at around 150 quid to repair that mate

if you can do it yourself then it will be around 70 quid and u can get one of these below: (assuming that its your drive that's faulty of course.)

silly question but have u tried a disc cleaner or blowing dust with a fan hairdryer on low etc. your lens could be dusty/dirty. if it still wont work then make a backup of your hardrive to your pc/lappy and then factory default the ps3 via SETTINGS - SYSTEM SETTINGS - RESTORE PS3 SYSTEM. this could take up to 7 hours and isnt guaranteed to work but well worth a shot before spending £, as this has worked on other peoples ps3. if it fails to read discs afterwards you will need to replace the blu ray drive as unadkat mentioned above. there are plenty of videos on youtube etc. for replacing bd-rom on ps3.

I phoned sony and because the ps3 still plays CD's and DVD's I was told to format the system back to original settings taking 7 hours, It seemed to work as the game loaded first time, However when we loaded it up this morning it started again no matter how many times we tried the game would not load, I formated again and when I got home from work put the game in and bingo it works again, My boy is still playing on it and has not turned it off yet so can't check if it's going to work again but it seem's weird to me that it could be the bluray laser or something like that if it works after formatting because I could have thought if it was not wokring then it would not work no matter what?
