Rai 1 disappeared

I was with some elderly Italian friends yesterday who were quite upset at losing their Rai tv. I managed to establish that the satellite had changed to 11766v, they have a technomate 1000. Not knowing exactly what I was doing, I looked at the satellite option to see what the number was and it only went up to 10750. I then realised I needed to go into the menu- installation-advanced -edit/search screen - satellite. All I got was 'No Satellite' and I could not do anything to change it. As you can imagine - I am a complete novice - sorry.
It does not help that they live a few miles away and I do not have the equipment to hand to try anything out.
