Been off line for 2 days, virmin came out cus me broadband did not work, called them out, disconected me A780 first and reconected my virmin box, the cable man could not see what the problem was, but went out to the green box up the street and seen a filter on my line, he said they put a filter on the line the afternoon b4 as there was noise feedback coming from my line,? anyway he took my modem off and the d link router, game me a all in one modenand router, checked all cable , all seen fine, but could not take the filter off my line,, he said he would have to call out another engineer, so about an hour ago a new engineer came out looked at the wire from me virmin box which iv had for many years, and said that was the problem, cus it was sat cable like we buy from most places, so he then made me up a new cable rg6 he used and said this was the best cable to use as theres no noise from these, ref insulation,, he then took the filter off my line hey prestow it all worked just great,, so all im saying if, please use the correct cable for the job,, RG6 cheers

RG6 is a low budget sat cable.
Using Sat cable for cable TV is fine. Using cheap nasty already made up sat flyleads could be problematic though.

well yeah, i mean the eurovox's were well known for frazzling peoples modems a year or two back.
i always use rg6 no matter what. for sat, cable, modems, terrestrial.... i've got five runs from the back of the house at the roof to the front of the house downstairs where the telly is and dont have any problem whatsoever. my modem is in my comms cupboard upstairs too and that must be a 40ft run and again, no problems. the reason i use rg6? its cheap.

6 is ok for most installations 11 is better for long runs. 6 has a lower operating frequency and higher attenuation than 11 and cannot run for as long before experiencing significant signal loss. There are other differences but : 6 - thinner - higher attenuation 11 - thicker - lower attenuation - up to 3 GHz - 400 ft before significant loss - marked in 24" segments - usually used for backbone cable runs - sometimes a pig to find big enough RF connectors so 6 for the uncomplicated, bog standard and 11 for durability. £18 will buy a 100m bobbin of 6 from screWme |
