Yes, as long as you put it the right way round, standard electrolytics are polarised.

Though unless your local store is good, they probably wont have stock and their deliveries are slow.

Bought the one from flebay. Will fit with the grey stripe on the cap facing the same way as the old one did so it should be fine. Anyway as CS said above I`ve got nothing to loose.

Let us know how it goes..hopefully well, still not much to lose if it don't, as unfortunately it could be other caps or components that have deceased as well. That is a common problem with some of the Thomson Sky boxes, luckily for those a kit of caps is available from vendors inc fleabay. The little buggers get a bit hot, and dry out, then blow their tops.

Will post back when the cap arrives and is fitted. In the meantime though I dug up my old philips dsx6010 (gathering dust in the attic for the last 10yrs) got it flashed and voila, it is working as a quick fix to my problem.
(only interested in freesat and some crap TNK on hotbird ) Soft not too good but given that I was using manual switch to go beetwen sats it will do for now
