No device should be doing that. If its surging voltage back into the co-ax then its faulty. Any cable tuner device should have the function of an isolation unit built in by design.

You may also find that most of the isolators are actually surge arrestors (ie > 50v or so) rather than true isolation units. If you measure the voltage on a cable you'll likely find it to be around 30v - probably something to do with the voltage necessary for phone operation. These kinds of devices would have little effect on the symptoms you describe (except to lower the signal level by virtue of a cable break).

Whatever the reasons are why it works sometimes maybe we'll never know but these types of faults have been resolved on many occasions by changing the setup and fitting an isolator at each point instead of splitting after the isolator. VM are guilty themselves of making this bad practice common place by sending out home install kits i.e. splitter and 2 f-leads.

Hi All,
I was have similar problems as above..

I fitted a a new splitter to outside connection (5-2500Mhz) with a DC power pass tap and all seems good now.

No loss of internet / modem connection and very very little tv picture glitching
