Default PC wont turn on after powercut

I have a packard bell tower. I just had a power cut. Now I can not turn my computer on at all. The screen which is seperate but plugged into the same surge protector bar works but the PC does not turn on at all. I tried replacing the powercord and it still does not work. Someone suggested I need a new power supply? Is that easy to fix?

Very easy, but you do need to get the right type, with the necessary power, and connections, for your PC.
What model is your PC?

Hopefully your packard bell uses a standard atx power supply, if it does its pretty easy to swap

Pay a little extra for a decent brand if you can afford it.

Open the machine and check the current atx connector on the main board. This is usually 20 - 24 pin mate.

After that order a new psu.

However before you order a new a psu there is a test u can do to make sure that it is the psu that is faulty. Google " paper clip test "

Speaking as a qualified computer technician I can say that it might be one of the following things

1. Power supply is a possibility and Packard Bells DO use the Standard ATX form factor. To get a new PSU for this would set you back approximately £30 for a good one such as an Antec. A good place to try is Ebuyer.com for this sort of thing

2. When you had the powercut chances are that the actual Motherboard or CPU got fried by a power surge going through the PSU into it. If this has happened the motherboard will need to be replaced. Another thing you could get hold of on Ebuyer.

Before doing this though my suggestion would be to invest in a power supply unit tester. You can get these dirt cheap on places like Ebay and in search you just type in ATX powersupply tester.

If you live in Essex, I could come and do it all for you

I would suggest reseating the PSU connectors on the mainboard 4 pins + 20/24 pins.
Reseat the CPU RAM VGA and HDD data cable.

Hoep this helps!
