Hey buddy, as tempting as the offer may be i would just stick to 1920x1080 (full hd). I'm no expert but you should still be able to play your 360/PS3 with 720p but it might not look as sharp. 1080p basically refers to the resolution and number of pixels that make up the image on your screen. So the higher the number the better the quality/detail. 720p is still technically hd but not full hd. Most modern tv's are 1080p. Some tv channels and games are made in 720p so with those you wouldn't necessarily notice the difference but if you wanted to watch a blu ray you would only be able to watch it at 720p resolution as opposed to the full 1920x1080 it was designed to be viewed in. Also the bigger the screen the better 1080p will look. You should check out Richer Sounds.I bought my TV from there. The staff are a lot more knowledgeable than people at comet and although they don't have as big a selection i can pretty much guarantee they will be cheaper than anywhere else. Also another company to try is PRC direct, although they are exclusively online.

Like i said im no expert but if you have any questions feel free to ask. If you do have a Richers sounds store not far from you it's definitely worth a visit. They will be able to better explain the difference than i can.

Good luck chief

hi mate i was in curries myself in preston and i know which set up u were looking at and its not a good setup to be fair your ps3 WILL play on it cos im using a 720 screen at mo
if you want best out of playstation they have a lg (working with playstation on things at mo ) 51" 3d for bout 800 if i remember or if you can afford to pay a little more get a panasonic there excellent
i looked in to the samsung tvs and while i was at curries i was earwigging other sales staff telling other customers things like there current range thats under 700 is actually old technology they trying to get rid of ,that put me of the 1 you on about straight away and went for the LG plus like i said they in partnership with sony

720 isn't really proper HD - if you want a proper HD experience you really want a TV with a definition of 1080. Otherwise, you're not really getting a proper HD TV, just a cheap flat screen TV.

a lot of ps3 games are 720 anyways.of course a console will work on it,that salesman mustve been thick as **** to not know that.
obviously 1080 is clearer but 720 is still really clear and looks really sharp.
if you want it go back into the store with youre parents and speak to a different salesman in there, one who knows what hes on about.

this tv is ample in the cheap entry to 3d but can be found cheaper in dixons etc, as pointed out about the tv not being 1080p well its not really essential unless watching bluray. as 3d transmissions are not available in 1080p mode neither are sky or any other tv providers they transmit 720p/1080i. the salesperson would be correct in saying anythin under the 7 series is old technology as thay dont come with freeviewhd or smart tv capabilities. if you shop around for an extra 2-300 quid u could pick up a 7/8 series 50" 3d plasma with lots of nice features!
