Default dbox2 broadband feed

Hi all.
newbie here - great forum guys and a load of help in getting my shiny new dbox2 up n running!
Hope i can offer some useful assistance in the future.

now onto my first question...

am using broadband cable feed into dbox2.
don't have any cable tv package.
has picked up all channels no problems.

just bit unsure how 'safe' this is?
read lot of posts re leaving regular cable box connected as providers know when it not connected.
can't find anything relating to issues with just running it off broadband feed?

any advice much appreciated!
