Default Eurovox stuck in standby

Please help!!, box is stuck in standby and won't switch on, just two dots in middle of the screen. Have tried rebooting and have purchased null modem cable with the intention of downloading dnupman programme or updating firmware, unfortunatly my PC can't see the box (guessing because I can't swwitch the thing on) any suggestions for a complete novice!.
