I think Perry Cox's post is quite apt really. The KV/SV sections of this forum have gotten to be a pain imo. Moaning, coming out with the "mine is better than yours" statement etc.

Shall we dwell on the differences or shall we all move on?

this kinda makes it interesting in the starview section now... as a payserver we cant discuss anything starview related.....

lol long live the starview!!! not...

sorry robbo but i had to get this one in,,, not sure now what we can discuss in this section...

regards dave

ps doing a great job !!
So far as I understand it, a Starview is a legally sold receiver, and thus discussions about technical issues with them are fine.

However, what people do with their boxes is up to them, but we obviously can't allow any direct discussion of card sharing.

Yes and no for both KV, SV and any other cable box.

Because the UK cable system is effectively a closed system the sale of boxes that have no other purpose than connection to that system is, in reality, a very legally 'grey' area. VM believe the sale of such boxes is in itself illegal, and they may actually be correct in that BUT they dont have enough faith in there interpretation to start bringing prosecutions (this may now be changing) - they know that losing in court would just intensify the problems.

Instead, they are working steadily in the background to have the law clarified and tightened so that the boxes definately cannot be imported or sold. They are also pushing for connection of unauthorised equipment to the cable network to be made a criminal offence (as per interfering with telecoms equipment offences) rather than just a contract breach.

As things stand, there is now an important legal distinction between how SV operate and how KV operate. It may not be logical to a layman without legal training that there is a difference between the two systems (after all, they ultimately achieve the same thing) but infortunately there is. The payserver aspect basically makes conspiracy to defraud far easier to legally prove in court.

A consequence of that legal distinction is that now, theoretically, any forum publishing information to assist in that fraud (ie details of who to contact or what toolbar to use to 'pay) are themselves part of the conspiracy. In theory there is a similar risk with allowing KV support but I think thats actually a lot less simply because there is no obvious payserver involved (thus conspiracy is much harder to prove).

Generally, i'd actually advise Admin to disallow anything more than general chat for either box. Any support type questions should probably be banned or at least censored.
