it would seem your tv has digital coaxial out but your surround system only has digital optical in . so they are not compatible .

Seems funny this Tv if you look at the title it state's:

UMC 40 inch Widescreen HD Ready 1080p LCD TV with Freeview

Now when you look on the list of features it has it state's:

Full HD 1080p -------- NO

now thats confusing.. glad to hear a pro sorted it out..

how much did it cost you for someone to do it for 20mins?

Thumbs up Re: home cinema problems....

A digital Coax does the same thing as SPDIF / Optical as they both can distribute 5.1 surround with out any loss or compression. Only difference is that the digital Coax have become Obsolete as far as I was aware and Optical have taken over.

What Mikie stated above is correct. Then it would mean that the guy used some sorta converter or you bought an AMP.

I assume it would be something like this: http://www.google.co.uk/products/cat...ed=0CEIQ8wIwAQ
