Sniffing MAC addresses will work on any cable modem regardless of your ISP. As long as you have an active cable/DSL broadband connection with an ISP, you can sniff away lol.

Not true - many ISP's completely disable the ability to see certain kinds of data traffic at the 'user' end of the modem. Such devices would, at least, require modified firmware.
