Default QUERY: So the DBox is dead...

I've been away from this forum for sometime and away from the whole cable scene. Almost 2 years ago i bought a DBox2, i gave it away to a family member and they used it just fine. They're looking to move house now so they gave me it back a few months ago, since then it's been sitting under my bed. I can't use it where i'm living at the moment (i don't own a TV) so i was going to give it to a mate as he has VM, everytime i go around he has to go to the bother of unplugging the box from his bedroom and hooking it upto his plasma. So after reading a few threads on this forum and few others (DWz) i know the DBox is dead, but if i give my mate this box will he be able to use it to get FTA channels on it? (Like the box did when keys changed). Or has the N3 change made the box completely redundant?

p.s. I am also aware that because of the N3 change there are now no ways to get keys (at least the old ways i knew how). I know it is against the rules to ask for a key (which i'm not) and any moderator reading this thread will no doubt raise an eyebrow. But as the toolbars i used too use no longer work and the Keyapp i did use doesn't work anymore is there any ways to get new keys? How far has N3 got rolled out wise? Don't suppose anyone knows if N3 has hit the tyneside area also.

Thanks.

I will just add that it can still get the FTA channels. There are about 12 available with the D-Box.
