if it is a laptop / desktop then you need to enter the BIOS and change the First boot device to CD / DVD ROM. If you have a Desktop which has been bought from a company and the Rom drive is an IDE then you will need to change the Jumper settings from CS to Master. If you done this then sometimes what you need to do is pres one of the Function keys I am not sure which it will be on your machine and it should come up with the Boot menu and from there you select the CD / DVD ROM drive. If this fails then you either need to get another ROM drive and test it with that. Usually its the ROM drive that's faulty when your unable to Boot from CD/ DVD. Or if you have WDS ( Windows Deployment Services) setup or if you know anyone that has got it setup then you can install Windows through the Network LAN. For this you would need another computer with Windows Server 2008, Active directory setup correctly, router and a Switch in order for this to work. All guides available on the MS site for this mate. Or you if your Bios supports External USB booting then you can get a Internal drive or an external drive. I use SATA / IDE cables which converts any 3.5 and 2.5 inch drives into External USB drives. However you need check your bios for this if it supports it.

O.K thanks, I have just tried to Flash the Bios with The latest driver's hoping it would re-set and do it that way but the flash process wouldn't start I don't know if there is something wrong with the disc I have burned? I have burned it in RAR Format and it doesn't seem wrong in itself, everything is there, Oh and also I have recently added a new burner and my BIOS doesn't recognise it, it keeps showing the old one is connected? Really getting to me this....

This disk that you have burned.. When you download the operating system, was that in ISO format or was just in data Format? if it was in data format then you would need to make it into a boot-able disk first before you even decide to Boot from CD / DVD. I assume that you have burned it as an ISO image and not as data format because that will not work @ all. if you bios is failing to recognize the Burner then there is a good chance that Burner is either faulty and the Bios is failing to pick it up. Otherwise the Burner should have been recognized. The one thing that you never explained was that are you dealing with a laptop or a desktop? And how many Burners do you have installed? There is no reason for you to upgrade your BIOS in all honesty, unless there is drastic changes and when you downloaded the new firmware it would tell you what changes have been made. Just to add that if you have a desktop machine and you have 2 drives which are IDE then I would swap them round and at the same time change the jumper settings as well. If there is only one Drive then you would need to check your Jumper settings. Or you have not set the Jumpers correctly. Secondly if you have a original copy of windows then you need to boot from that and see if it works. Otherwise download a Linux LIVE CD, burn it to DVD / CD and the boot from that and see if it works. Reading from your system specs I see that you have 2 drives and I am assuming that they are SATA drives and not IDE? You see you need to state everything clearly first before we can help you. Anyway as stated above you need to open that computer up and check.

Yeah sorry about not posting the spec's before hand as I say I am a bit flustered by all this and am way out of my depth,
They are both SATA Drives also, Is it worth me taking disconnecting the DVD Burner and Booting up then Switching off and reconnecting it? Thanks in Advance and please excuse my etiquette. |

First of all seeing you have said that you have both sata drives that's all good mate. As far as your writer not being detected it is a good possibility that your sata ports could be faulty as I had the same issue. So you should connect it to a different Sata port and see if the Bios Detects it. Secondly you need to download the Linux Live CD and then test it with that and see if it boots up. try it and report back. |

The ASUS M4A88T-V-EVO.Has similar spec to my ASUS EBOX.
So hitting F8 on the splash screen will bring the boot menu up. I looks like the problem may just be that the disk is not bootable. If the computer gets as far as the post check,it is already booting from the hard drive.(I think)

Another thing about these computers is that they are HD motherboards. There are two sata hdd modes. In the bios under main is a heading SATA2 Mode. The two modes are,
IDE and ACHI.Mine is connected via hdmi cable. If w7 is istalled the setting is probably ACHI.I found it impossible to install XP in that mode. But linux wouild install ok. I now have mine set to IDE.Mainly because my wife needed XP.But in the OP's case I would leave it set as it is and use F8 to boot from the dvd. Someone is going to say that F8 brings up safe mode.it do's once windows starts installing. But on the splash screen no operating system is being installed. So for some reason ASUS use it for the boot menu.
