Default Racism

why is it deemed racist if you call someone a p***, but if you add the word 'stani' to it, then it is not. if you call an afghanistani an 'afghan' this is not deemed as racist. scots are called jocks, irish are paddys, british are brits,,,,,,by the way I AM NOT A RACIST. No snide remarks please, just an acceptable answer.

I think it is the way the word has been/is used, i.e in a racist context.

I think it's entirely due to the intention of how a word is used - there are words used to denote someone is from another country, and there are words used to demean someone from another country.

Consider why the "N" word is considered racist for any one that is not African, though it seems to be acceptable for African people to use it if they wish. At the end of the day, it's because its a word that has been used in a derogatory manner ie: the N word came from the word Negro meaning Black, but after some people kept saying "That f'ing n word stole something from me, that bloody c word" It became racist after a while.

This is a similar thing for Pakistanis.

^ Another thing to consider is that some Welsh, Scottish and Irish people may not like that you call them "English" when they're not. The P word can be used as an insult to any one from South Asia and even when it's not, someone may not liked to be called Pakistani when in fact they're Indian or Bangladeshi

Admittedly I have limited exposure to racism so if my view is wrong then sorry but this is how I see it.
It's not so much the word as the tone that is used, though that said, the "P----" word as you put it, has taken on a life of its own similar to the N word. Though I don't think people form Pakistan use it on themselves like some African Americans do.
Personally I think these terms of insult are only used by the ignorant and stupid as they know no better. Racism is a form of bullying, its how you react that makes you the man/woman.
If you want to insult someone then do it with style. ie Winston Churchill is one person who springs to mind.

I am not particularly nationalistic but you can call me paddy if you like, I don't consider it an insult. I suppose I haven't heard it used with the same acid tone.

It is interesting that you, the OP, didn't type the complete word but just typed P and I followed suit. You are not using it in a racist context but just starting an intelligent conversation on the subject, so I for one don't see the problem. I do understand why you didn't spell the complete word by the way.

i can understand yours and previous posts on this topic, if the word is used in an acid, or venomous manner to a pakistani, however, if you are using the shortened version of the word to decribe their nationality, or say, do you know such and such,,,,,is that the p*** lad,,,,,yeah thats him. then in this sense of the word i would not deem it as racist. the n word you mentioned is clearly a racist word in itself, and could not be viewed as anything but racist, it is a horrible word which is vile an demeaning to black people.

if you abbreviate the word Pakistani or Nigerian you are said to be racist right
but if you abbreviate the words say British or Australian you are not
so correct me if I'm wrong you can abbreviate a country where a white person come from but you cant if its where a colored person come from am i correct in thinking this ?
