Just bought a 2nd hand router and forgot to ask for the password.

The seller is proving hard to contact so is there any thing I can do now?

Check for a reset hole, once pressed the router reverts back to the original username and password, as mentioned this is usually located on the bottom of the router.
It's usually simple E.g. Username: admin, Password: password

If you post the make/model of the router we should be able to find it.

try this
Performing a hardware reset will return your device to factory default. You will loose any custom settings you have added. Click here if you only want to restart your hardware.
Setup steps:
  • Locate the reset hole on the router. The button will be on the back or side of the router.
    See images below:

  • Leave the router powered on.
  • Use a paperclip (or similar) to press and hold in the reset button for 10 seconds.
  • Remove the paperclip.
  • Wait approximately one minute for the router to restart.
The settings for the router have now been reset back to their default...........then leve blank and log in
