Default Newbie V+ HD question.

Hi folks im new here but looks to have a lot of good info, apologies if i have posted in the wrong place.

Sadly my freeview PVR broke but luckily my sister was having the virgin tivo box installed at her apartment and getting her V+HD box moved to her bedroom.

She had no real desire for a tv in her bedroom, so since I used to have virgin tv at my house (now only phone and broadband) I was welcome to try it out her old v+hd box.

So I picked it up took it home & plugged it in expecting it not to work, but to my surprise there were more channels than i got with freeview!
I turned it off and did some research and reading up on this before i reconnect.

My questions are can virgin tell i am doing this?

It is a scientific atlanta explorer 8300DV v+HD box.
Does this 'talk back' to VM?

Do i need a 50db noise blocker to stop talk back and VM finding out?

Many thanks in advance.

It depends on how far away you are.

This is a legitimate box which is attached to another account which you are using illegitimately.

IF Virgin Media find out (possibly via IP address of the box) that it is being used in this way, your sister will be the one in trouble. Can you (and she) accept that risk she is taking on your behalf?

PS Cutting the talkback will no doubt stop the recording capability.

Hi thanks for your help,
We live in neighboring towns which according to my research falls under the same net Id, which is why I managed to get it to work??
I thought the 50db noise blocker would stop vm getting any info like ip address etc.
I knew the 50db noise blocker would stop on demand working but not that it stopped the recording function also!

Sounds like just guesswork from Ernie though..

If this was a fact, one would not usually write it in this manner.

An easily established fact if you have a V+.

I believe it to be correct because the V+ has to be connected to the cable to view recordings. Surely this means that there must be some validation (via talkback) that the V+ is legitimate?
