I know £600 isnt good to lose, but youve got 10months out of it (even if it was *****) And you should have researched before forking out that much money.
You learn from your losses.
what losses ?

work out how much you have saved by not paying full subs and get back to us .

£25 6 months or £45 for a year................................not that much for what you ARE GETTING IS IT ?

purchased 6 of these for various family and friends just before christmas last year, place i bought them from was a online retailer, purchased with a credit card for just under £600

so my plan is if these do go off i've not had my years worth these will be going back to the online shop as faulty, they choose not to refund or replace i'll contact the cc company job done

some might say it's not the companies fault but in the same respect i paid for a years worth and i'm actually losing out on over a months worth of service

Hello mate

I think your failing to understand what is legal & Illegal in this field. When you bought the box you knew what the score was in terms of, if the server goes down then that means you lose your viewing or even if the server is raided then you will lose your viewing either way.

Now as far as the expiry date is concerned on the box and you being a member of the forum, am sure you would be visiting the forum and checking what the updates are regarding these type of boxes. Anyway am probably guessing you have a busy life and so on but that is understandable.

When it comes to the legal point, you have take into consideration that your complaints to the police, trading standards or even it is it will be will be nothing but a failure.

First of all when the seller sells this box, you should know that the only way these boxes become ''legal'' or shall say are legal is when they are sold as FTA.

Rule No - 1: you broke the rule by connecting the box to there network and went against there T/C. If you read there terms and conditions you will have noticed that it clearly states that you are not allowed to connect any other equipment to there network apart from the set top box provided to you by Virgin Media.

Now the worst that can happen to you for that is maybe they would disconnect you from there network.

Rule No - 2: You Bought a FTA box and then flashed it with a '' Modified Firmware'' to make things worse you then start watching TV without a valid subscription. For this you would be fighting a court battle for sure. Specially if they decide to look into your ISP and see that you have had an illegal box connected to there network all this time.

You now claim that you want your money, which is not going to happen. No seller will sell these boxes pre flashed with a modified firmware after what happened to Eurovox in the early N1 days.

And finally if you read the terms and conditions on the sellers website they will have specifically stated 2 things:

1) Cooling period - if your not happy with your purchase and as long as its not opened and still has intact packaging you can return it back.

2) The warranty is for 12 months and not for sending back the item after 10 months or what ever amount of months you have had it for.

3) Finally, you can fight and complain as much you like in my opinion, because your fighting a losing battle here.

They can check your credit card history and see that you have bought x amount of boxes on such and such day.

if you go to court how will you explain to the Judge 3 things:

1- why you bought the boxes?

2- You clearly know that VM have it in there Terms and conditions regarding not connect any other set top boxes

3- you modified a box in order to receive TV without paying a subscription?

So unless you have a good answer to all the questions listed above then you will win the case, other then that I think even your solicitor would tell you that you don't stand a chance in hell.

Yeah, your right alot cheaper than a sub. 45 for a year is very competitive for cs servers, But what i meant was that he could have made a more informed decision if he'd read up before buying. Im sure that he will next time.

Unreal - Amazes me how this guy thinks he can get away with trying to claim against the company using a CC chargeback claim. I'm sure his card company won't be forthcoming to refund him once they know that he defrauded the TV operator and will himself land in court for illegally obtaining TV without paying the operator, as its theft of copyright material.

In simple terms the man is just landing himself into more trouble if you ask me.

Correct me if am wrong

But when an individual does do a charge back on a credit card, am sure the credit card company will ask how long has it been?

Unless he turns around and states that he never received the goods then even that itself wont save him as am sure when the boxes were delivered they would have been signed for upon receipt.

Secondly when they question him how long have you had the product for, am sure he wont say oh I have only had it for a week

So unless am wrong am sure the merchant will ask him on how long hes had the goods for and if they have been working in good condition so far and his answer will be yes they have been working fine until now but the server which was giving me all the channels (UK channels) is no longer working.. because my expiry date has changed..

This is where he will get caught out and not to mention hes most likely going to get his family into trouble as well with his silliness.

And just add when the Credit card company do Phone the retailer, the retailer would simply say the boxes work and so as they are suppose do which is give FTA channels.

if they wanted to add insult to the injury they could simply say '' according to the T/C of Virgin media hes not suppose to connect that box to there network''
