The phone which you mentioned above is most likely ''Barred''. In other-words that phone cant be used in the UK yet it would work abroad! Unlocking AKA GSM is totally different to Unbarring the phone. The GSM side is where the phone is open to work on all network providers and nothing to do with the change of IMEI number. So if the phone is currently saying SOS that in it self is a big clue to what has happened to the phone. (barred). However if the phone is locked on T mobile then there is nothing stopping the shop owner of the phone to put a T - mobile Pay as you Go Sim - card into the phone and checking with that, rather then unlocking it first and you having to pay 15 notes. The way I think of it is that the owner of the shop is trying to be smart... In other-words the phone is currently locked on T-mobile, however if he goes and unlocks the phone then it would mean that your still liable to pay that £15, whether or not the phone works. I would suggest you get a Pay as you GO Sim card from somewhere and put it the in phone. And then try calling the phone from another phone.. i.e a Phone box and see if the call goes through.

it should say insert sim if there is no sim in it
if its locked to tmobile and you put another sim in it it should say wrong sim if it dont it might not be network locked if it accepts sim but wont work sometimes no signal icon or signal icon with a red line or bar accross then its blocked and a code will not unblock it |

Once the calls don't go through or I can't make any calls from that phone, then it means that is barred.
So in a nutshell no point trying anything, as no codes or even making the phone as gsm solved anything. Sent from my Desire HD Last edited by unadkat; 27-08-11 at 01:06 PM. |

you can of course take the phone overseas on holiday with you because its only blocked by the networks in the uk it will still work in some other countrys but first you would have to get it unlocked from tmobile and i'm not sure you would be able to call anyone in the uk might be better off buying a second hand phone

As stated above by leeds that the phone is bound to work abroad without a problem but am not sure if the blackberry messenger will work if you do decide to take it abroad and sell it or give it to a friend of a family. Either way am pretty certain that the BB messenger service will never work.
However making the phone GSM will enable you to use any Sim card aboard but it will not work here even if the phone is GSM.
