thanks again .will try again tomorrow .w7 disc would not boot from laptop after it went faulty will try again from external

I know it wont exactly solve your problem with the dvd drives, but why dont you install win7 with a usb pendrive/hard drive or dont you have one.
You can use windows 7 usb/dvd tool if you do.
