Default 65-year-old TV still works after digital switchover

Sure it might not be a 52 inch 3D HD flatscreen, but this humble set from 1946 is still going strong after having a digi-box installed for the digital switchover.

Who need's the red button.

occasionally i get jobs in these little cubical/cabinet things up on the hills which have this kit in them. there's a telly like that and this really really old amp and racking and stuff. sometimes an ocilloscope which looks like its out of the arc.

i never turned the telly on like, looked way to complicated. it had knobs!

Wouldn't a 1946 set of needed a substantial rebuild when the change to UHF frequencies and 625 lines occurred back in 1985 ?

It'll certainly need some tweaking for the 3D channels

I'm amazed to see something like this, I mean i've heard of things surviving over the years and what not but i've never seen a television from that era in perfect working order !

It probably did but the VHF/405 line system didn't end until 1985. Dual standard TV's were very common in the 1970's

it only mention about the original tube so i would suspect that is about the only thing original left apart from the case .

"and now it can pick up QVC" ... because that is the most important thing about tv's .
