im at work now so will try theses things out later ,just one thing i tried opening up in safe mode but it still took me to a log in screen ,i think shes on windows 7

The only reason your unable to enter the safe mode screen is because you ate not pressing the f8 key at the correct moment.

And if you are the only user on the laptop then you will need the password when you do eventually manage to enter safe mode.

Companies do not give the Windows OS cd is because they instead have a recovery partiton which enables you to put the laptop back to factory state.

Worse worse comes to worse u can always download a copy of Windows and use the product key displayed on your laptop.

Hi

Youve almost certainly got this sorted now but if you havent, just google ophcrack, download and burn to cd and boot off that.

It will show you the passwords of user accounts.
