I think there is programs that will do it but most want you to pay.
If was me i would boot from a ubuntu live cd then you have access to all the windows files/folders to backup, then install fresh windows

Is she the only account on it ? or is there another account with admin rights? Or, boot in safe mode, and then logon with the Administrator account (assuming its had no password applied to it) then change her user account password..

If nibblizt's way dos'nt work try this.

This is from an article by Will Stapley,.in computer shopper.
I hope that he do's not mind me repeating it.

Reset password in windows.
To reset user password in windows.Boot into safe mode.

A popup box will appear, warning that some divices may not work in safe mode.
Click the yes button to go into safe mode.
Click on the start button, then control panel.
Locate user accounts icon.Double click it.At the bottom of the window that appears.is a list of user accounts.Click on the account with the forgotten password.
From the list of options choose, change the password.enter new password, and comfirm it.
Click change password,restart computer.Job done.
I don't have a password on my user account. So for me I get create password ,not change password in user accounts.

I missed a bit out .
Hope it's right this time.

Reset password in windows.
To reset user password in windows.Boot into safe mode.
After a short wait you will be presented with your usual login screen..
There should also be a new Admin icon.
Click on the administrator account. Not the user account that the forgotten password is on.
(A password is not needed on new administrator account)
A popup box will appear, warning that some divices may not work in safe mode.
Click the yes button to go into safe mode.
Click on the start button, then control panel.
Locate user accounts icon.Double click it.At the bottom of the window that appears.is a list of user accounts.Click on the account with the forgotten password.

If your Windows xp then you can bypass this issue as long as you have Windows cd.

However there are third party programs like hirens boot cd I think that is what they call it, which has the option to reset passwords.

Otherwise as stated above if you have access to the admin account then you can do it that way.

Or get a live cd, either Linux or win xp or a caddy / device which you can use the laptop drive as an external and backup the data.

If you have a desktop machine then u can plug the laptop drive to the desktop internally as long as you have the sata connections.

With this method you might have to take ownership with certain files and folders or the files and folders will not work.

Just to add you can use this tool:

http://pogostick.net/~pnh/ntpasswd/

Note that using a third party tool can cause Data lose! So its advice able that you backup all data first.
