Default Which one to buy?

Hey,

Just wondering which PS3 should I buy so that it can play modded games? Im asking for a relative, who wants it for his kids and they don't really need the online system too much (They're like 7 and 8 years old)

If you want to jailbreak/install custom firmware, you need a unit that is running 3.55 OFW or under. However, if you are competent at soldering you could get one running 3.70 OFW and downgrade it to 3.55 using the ProgSkeet.

So Im guessing the newer ones will be running above 3.55? As far as soldering goes, is it just like a Jtag or quite advanced stuff?

Thanks man

Most likely, yes. However there are still some slims out there running the old firmware, you just have to find them lol. I'd say it was a lot harder than doing a JTag, you can find more information about it here (look at all those wires lol).

Bloody hell. A Jtag I can do, but not that! That is immense, and I think I'd get someone else to do that for me. Thanks for the advice though. Ill tell him to search eBay and ask what firmware is on the PS3.

If not, hell have to pay someone to do some soldering

How much has he got to spend? I can ask around some of my friends and see what I can find.

In all honesty, I have no idea how much he wants to spend on the PS3, though if you know of any friends selling their PS3 modded or unmodded, it would be appreciated

Yes. If we don't need any additional feature, we can just add whatever we want and spend very less.
