Hi!
I just bought the SCM Nagravision CAM shown in this thread: Nagravision CI CAM I'm trying to mate it with my card (which is currently mated with my cable provider's box). For that I have NagraEdit5.2 but I wasn't able to find the Windows driver for the CAM. When I insert the CAM into my PCMCIA slot in my laptop, it recognizes the new hardware as SCM DVB_CA_Module. I turned the web upside down, but the only driver that I found for SCM DVB_CA_Module was for AlphaCrypt, not NagraVision. Tried it, but didn't work. If anyone has this driver for Vista or XP, I would appreciate it. Thanks |

Most new cams don't work in the PCMCIA slot, I know old cams, like the early Matrix cams did.
Have you checked that it is compatible with a PCMCIA slot? What satellite receiver are you using? Usually you can enter the cams menu, using a receiver, and imput any data or select cam settings. Alternatively you can try a Cas 3, or later, programmer, these work with most cams, and cards. |

I'm guessing it's compatible with PCMCIA if the laptop recognized it and there are SCM drivers for it available, but for other vendor (AlphaCrypt). So the SCM hardware itself must be PCMCIA compatible. Nevermind, I'll abandon this path for now.
The tip with the cable box menu was a good one, I wasn't aware of this. I do see the smartcard settings menu, however, the options to modify the content are disabled for this particular box. I don't know what brand it is, it only reads the cable provider DIGI and a model number HSC-1170NA. It's made in Turkey. But I have another idea. I realized I have a smarcard reader in my laptop. My question is: can I use this standard smartcard reader to read a Nagravision smartcard? Or do I absolutely need a Nagravision CAM? If my laptop's SC reader will do, then I only need a software. I don't think NagraEdit5.2 will do, cause it tries to connect to the SC hardware via a COM port. And my laptop's SC reader doesn't use one. Any advice to what software to use is appreciated. |

They aren't designed for pcmcia slots - they are designed to run in dvb slots. Apart from maybe doing the odd firmware update your chances of getting them to do anything standard from pcmcia is negligable. The cam expects to see the basic TS streamdata on one of its pins - you'll never see this on a PC pcmcia connection.
To use a cam module on a PC you require to buy a dvb card with built in cam interface. The cam interface may look physically like standard pcmcia but its not ! nb, dependant on the version of Nagra your system runs you stand little to no chance of pairing your card to a real NagraCam without the assistance of your provider. Any provider that supplies a receiver as part of the subscription is unlikely to allow you to pair to a non-authorised device. Last edited by TheCoder; 24-09-11 at 12:41 AM. |

I'm not really sure what your trying to do or what hardware your trying to use to receive with in your PC. If its a standard pc dvb card then best bet for cardreader is a very simple and cheap phoenix serial reader. This should really not cost more than £15 or you can build one yourself easily enough on veroboard if your into soldering etc. Most 3rd party dvb software will allow plugins which will give you cam emulation via the phoenix interface. btw, which version of Nagra does your system use ? If your on Nagra3 then you need to do some fairly comphrensive work to aquire the pairing details for use with your card. The info to do this is available but only in technical form, not as a tutorial. You need to be able to understand some quite complex stuff to proceed with this. also, not sure what you intend to do with NagraEdit 5.2 ? Its a program designed to dump data from first generation N2 cards. Its pretty useless on later generation N2 cards or the newer N3 cards. Last edited by TheCoder; 24-09-11 at 12:48 AM. |
