Had that prob with my dogs its worse around the age when they are teething mine were worse about seven or eight months, i think it varies with type of dog, give him/her something to chew you can get synthetic type bones for power chewers or proper beef bones, those twisted leather type chews can get stuck in their gut, the chewy strips mine just swallow whole so are a waste of time.
The only way seriously is to not leave shoes where they can be got at your dog doesnt understand whats not his to chew. good luck. |

Hmmmm....why didn't I think of that!!
Anyway, the shoes, five pairs of my wife's and one pair of mine, were in the bedroom with the door closed. Came home and found a trail of debris leading from the front door up the stairs to the bedroom. The rest of us found it quite funny, shoes were mostly sh!te looking, but the wife was not amused. Bloody dog can open doors. 12 month old German Shepherd bitch by the way. Beautiful dog. Daughter has her spoilt rotten. I'll persevere for now. She's like a chewing machine, the dog that is, destroys balls, toy bones, real bones, everything. Thanks for the help.

A proper dog stair gate might be worth a try , but i expect your dog may find he can jump over it.
My son in law changed his door handles to the round type that stopped his staff opening them. I had to turn my front door handle the other way round so you lift up to open as they learned to press down to open, they havn't worked it out yet ! |

The dog is missing you so to stay close to you they will chew things that smell most of you. Leave the radio on or a cd player on so the dog does not feel alone, chewing is often caused by fear and stress.
We had to leave an old wind up clock and hot water bottle in the dog's bed so he did not feel alone & rip the dad's shoes apart. You could also buy a spray that reminds them of their mother (Dog Appeasing Pheromone).for around 50 euro. Or you could try this... ![]() http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q1XJoyB76hI |

Only had two dogs as pets in my life, each of them I never let them upstairs, they sit and look up the stairs when I'm upstairs but never come up. Try a lock above the handle which is so small the dog can't open any door, no use turning the handle upside down they still learn to open them. When your leaving them alone mix and use different toys on different days so they don't become bored, a dog like yours which chews everything try a tyre or cricket ball that keeps them happy for more hours than anything else, a radio in the background helps aswell. Build a kennel in the back garden might be the answer, I hope you can get to keep your pet.

Leave an old pair about and put some hot mustard on the part he chews on, do that for a few days he will soon get the message.
