Just a warning for anyone going for a new mobile phone contract.

I rang a well established mobile phone company yesterday to get a Blackberry.

Did the usual stuff, decided which deal etc etc, gave bank details for the direct debit, no probs, phone will be here in a few days.

However, on inspection of the email I got from them,

They have added (WITHOUT AUTHORISATION)

1. A £6.99 per month phone insurance policy (1st month Free)

2. Gadgetline Helpline for £18.30 every 6 months

(Extras:-
Gadget Helpline Support (£18.30 every six months)
Insurance PLUS 1 month free insurance - thereafter £6.99 per month per handset, cancellable at any time. )

WTF!!!, I did not ask for this crap, didn't authorise it and don't fecking want it.

So, ive got to p about phoning/contact two companies,quoting reference numbers and all that to get them cancelled.

This is not on surely.

So be aware, nect time you order a phone from one of these bankers, make sure that they havn't stuck any of these extras on without permission.

No it was dialaphone phones4u.

They say it is standard to sign you up for these policies, but they don't tell you about it if you order by phone.

They often put it in the small print with a check box to opt out, pretty standard these days, unfortunately.

Yes, that is what they said, but I ordered on the phone, not the internet, so they should have told me then. Even on the net, I think this type of thing should be made illegal if its not clear at time of purchase, i.e in the purchase summary before you click on the last button.
