Default media player & .vob

wondering if anyone can help,

i recently upgraded my TV setup bought a Sharp LED 3D TV, hung it on the wall, the plan was/is it back up my 350 + DVD collection onto my 2TB external hard drive and plug into TV and us as a on demand film collection (TV also records straight to HDD so added bonus)

Only problem I've found is that although reviews claimed that the Sharp TV plays practically video format it doesn't play .vob files so i don’t really fancy converting 350 DVD files to another format or buying another TV, so I thought the only other way is purchasing a small media play and was looking at something like this http://www.google.co.uk/products/cat...ed=0CH8Q8wIwAw

but although it says it plays most video formats it doesn't mention anything about .vob files

anyone know of a media play that’s small compact, USB powered that will play .vob's from a HDD to TV ideally via a HDMI?

Thanks

its ok peoples, i've found an answer, just purchased a sumvision cyclone media player, apparently does vob's and acts as a HDD enclosure so won't need to double up on power adaptors or usb cables etc

Vob files are essentially Mpeg2 files, simply rename them from .vob to .mpg and then see if your TV plays them, I see no reason why it shouldnt..

I'm in the process of converting my DVD collection to MKV using MKVmaker so I can do exactly the same thing via my VU's

but after renaming them will they play in the same sequential order like the vob's would to make up the complete DVD film?

i could merge all the vob's into one i suppose directly from the disc to HDD ... hmmmm
