Default USB drive memory problem

I own one of thise DataTraveler 8GB USB drives and I used to have some files on there but now I want to put a bigger file in there which is 7.29GB. I right clicked on the drive and hit format, but when I try to move the file into the drive it says it's too small... How come?

The stick uses quite a few megabytes for the file system.Right click on its icon then click on properties at the bottom of the list.To see how much space is left after formatting.
I think that although the file is 7.29 it will need more space than that, because it will add to the file system. That's just a guess.

Im not sure, aint got my 8gb stick to hand, but yea, 8GB normally means unformatted size, the usable space after formatting is a lower figure... I think an 8gb stick usually formats to leave about 7.4gb usable space.. So you might just have enough space.. Did you format it to NTFS? Cause if you formatted it FAT32 you'll never get a file that itself is over 4gb onto it, thats the limitation of FAT32.. To put a file sized over 4gb on it you'll need to format to NTFS.

Worth reformatting using the NTFS file system but like the others above have stated there is some space that is reserved for the actaul file system itself and then Windows also never gives the full true capacity after this on a device. It could well be that windows is saying the drive space is too small where in fact you probably have about 7.5GB after file system additions upon format.

Try zipping the file and compressing it. this may also help
