Default Re: Surround sound buying advise

Hi mikie8

I am looking for the best sound mainly from my Virgin V+ box but i also play on my PS3 from time to time.

I started to look at Bose systems but i see that they are not really rated very highly.

As i don’t really know what i am doing would you recommend a ONKYO system or am i much better off buying the amp and speakers as separate’s

Thanks

Mark

its not a simple question and answer .

how good are your ears ?

its all about a personal choice .

check out some review sites . write a list of must have features ( e.g hdmi in/outputs , 3d capability )

once you have a comperhensive list , you will only have a choice of one or two amps within your budget .

onkyo may not be well known in the uk , but as confirmed here it is a make worth considering , yamaha basicly invented the sound processor so are worth considering , denon are also a well respected make in the audio / video department . there may be others but whenever ive upgraded these 3 makes always came out on top .

you dont have to buy the lot now . you can use any speakers you have atm .

speaker choice is a harder choice as they all do the same thing . no comperhensive list will help with you chioce here im afraid .

positioning of speakers is the main limitation . floor , wall , bookshelf , large or small .

so first decide where you will place your speakers , this will limit your choice .

i use kef , a friend has bose acoustimass and im well impressed by them for such small wall mounted units . i have had a number of different makes . in the end it came down to what fits into the rooms decor best ( keep the other half happy ) .

the more you can limit your choice , the easier your choice will be .

good luck

Herman and kardon speakers I believe they call it, are suppose to be very good speakers.

Even the speakers that onkyo do they are good as well mate.
