Default Surround sound buying advise

Hi

I am looking for help in choosing a home cinema surround system.

I am not really looking for a built in blue ray player just great sound all advise welcome.

I don't want to make a bad choice.

Thanks

Mark

IMHO for a good domestic system you can't go wrong with a ONKYO av reciever. I'm well pleased with mine. Even though it's paired up with a set of relatively cheap Eltax speakers (Floorstanders Front, Bookshelf Rears, and a Centre) along with a cambridge Active Sub I'm pleased with the sound from it. Having decent speakers really helps with music reproduction. If it's just for films you can get away with smaller speakers. I've always found Richer Sounds a good source.

forget a dvd / 5.1 surround system combonation and look at a stand alone audio video amp . you can always get a seperate dvd player later .

i also own an onkyo amp and can highly recommended them . ive also owned denon and yamaha amps in the past and was happy with there relative performance .

modern av amps have multi hdmi input and hdmi output so no need to buy a hdmi switch .

good luck with your choice .

The Amp you want depends on your budjet and the features you want. What you need to do is take a look at the various ones on sale and pick one based on those criteria.

i have the tx-sr875 and its so hot i can cook a roast on it .

i have kef eggs and kef psw2010 sub .

your choice all depends on what you want or need . how good are your componants sound outputs you are going to connect to the amp ?

if your a dvd watcher , then dts is about all you need but if you watch blu ray discs you may need an amp with better sound output to get the full benefit of Dolby TrueHD or dts hd master audio tracks .

it also depends on your room size , will you ever need more than 6 speakers to fill the room with sound ? 5.1 is good enough for most small to medium rooms but for large rooms 7.1 makes more sense .

speakers are a personal choice . space also matters here , bookshelf , wall and floor standing are but a few of the choices you will have to make .

its down to you in the end

good luck with your choices .
