battery wont hold charge.not bothering me to much as it works pluged into mains.

when i turn it on i cant see the screen,it changes to diffrent levels of blackness (sounds stupid i know but thats the best way i can explain)
as its booting up.

i can hear all the usual start up sounds but cant see anything onscreen.

i can hear fan sounds and can feel hot air comming from the slots
the laptop gets very hot underneat after only a short time operating.

i have windows 7 cd with all versions available to me. i would like to install windows 7 home premium on this but cant with all the problems i have.

there are some known problems with certain hp laptops of that era where the heat sink comes from the processor and over the graphics chip which causes the machine to super heat up and also lint builds up quickly behind the grill attached to the heat sink
there are a few fixes on you tube but i think they are more people cluthching at straws heating the graphics chip up with a hand blow torch and adding extra copper but i cant vouch for these repairs and i know in usa some people have managed to get some money out of hp as it was a terrible design fault hope this helps

Try connect the laptop to the external monitor and see if there is screen display.
Use 1 working RAM on a different RAM slot.

Hope this helps!
