Like I said, many of those modem types were given to businesses so the MAC range is indicitive in that respect but the Mac's thenselves are block allocated to modem manufacturers and not assigned by VM so you cant really assume a particular range will always be for business.

Now that many businesses have migrated to higher speeds they tend to be getting different modems and, in many cases, they are the identical modems to those given to domestic customers. The only differences are that the configs are usually different.

note, be very careful with using MAC's used for business purposes. Quite a lot of businesses have opted for the static IP option (something not offered to domestic customers) so attempting to use such Macs can create havoc !!!

as per the coders post the macs have no relation to the speed assigned to them.

you have to try them to find out what they are

Okay then...Is there anything else I should Know that might make the search go a little quicker?

From experience just trying the mac and not getting online doesn't always mean the mac is a dud.

Any top tips?

The best top-tips, patience and perseverance. If possible use only passive scanning techniques and then swap with somebody in an adjoining (or close) network area that has used the same technique.

Done properly, passive scanning should tell you all that you require to know. Unfortunately, such scanning doesn't work in all areas.
