Ok, here we go. I've had my current set up for a long time, and I've put up with it as it is due to complete ignorance and fear of messing anything up. lol
I've grown tired of having surround sound that only works with a DVD. I'd like it to work with regular TV (built in FreeView), the Ps3, and the Xbox as well as the current DVD. The TV is a LG 50PC55. The current surround sound I have is a Sony DVD home theatre system., model number DAV-DZ630. It has the usual 4 stand alone speakers, centre speaker and a sub. The PS3 is connected via HMDI to the TV, as is the DVD player. The Xbox (which I'm buying at Xmas), will be connected via HDMI also. Now the way it's set up now, all the speakers go into the DVD unit, and it connects to the TV with the HDMI.. Where do I go from here? lol. I'm really not sure how I go about it. I read somewhere about connecting via optical, which I found on the PS3 but I couldn't see any connections on the DVD unit. Thanks alot in advance!

Are there not any cables that go in to composite cables or straight to your TV's HDMI?

It isn't unusual for systems with a built-in DVD not to have external digital inputs. The good news is, you can re-use your speakers with the new AV-R you'll need to get and you'll be needing a new DVD player as well.
Make a list of all the components you want to connect to the new AV-R and the type of connections. It would be as well to allow an extra one or two for future expansion if you can. Once you've got your list, get yourself down to your local Richer Sounds - it'll be a good place to start. Their people are generally quite clued up, once you've got a feel for what is out there you can make your choice as to where/what you buy.
