Default Help! HDMI not working, no idea why

Hi all

About a month ago, my xbox 360 stopped working. It turned on, but my monitor didn't receive a signal, and my controllers didn't connect. I use an HDMI cable to connect my xbox to my computer monitor. I assumed my xbox was broken, because no HDMI cable worked.

I just tried connecting it to a different TV using the RCA cable it came with, and it worked perfectly.

Connecting to the TV isn't practical, and my monitor doesn't have any RCA ports. Neither HDMI slot works. I can't change the settings on my xbox, because the HD AV settings option is grayed out on my TV (it's a really old TV with no HDMI).

I know the xbox works. I know the HDMI cable works. I know the monitor works. What's wrong?

Also, is there any way to change the HD AV settings on the xbox without connecting to an HDMI TV?

TYIA

Try this, it should let you reset display settings to their factory defaults.

Nope. Same thing.

Would an HDMI to VGA converter fix this? My monitor has one VGA slot, but...I don't really think it would make a difference.

Also, I don't care about quality at all. If there's some way to make the RCA work, I'd be fine with that, but my monitor doesn't have an RCA slot...

You don't know that the HDMI on the box works, nor do you know that the HDMI input on the monitor works. Clarify that, and you will be able to investigate hdmi to vga etc.

I use the same HDMI in the same port for my computer, so that's not the problem.

So, how do you know that the HDMI output on the xbox works?

I bought another xbox (used) from gamestop. Same exact thing.

I really don't think it's a coincidence.....

Is this HDMI to DVI cable, or HDMI to HDMI cable, have you tried different cables? It sounds like it could be HDCP handshake with your Screen isnt happening, have you powercycled the screen (cut power to it for a minute or so) .. Do you get on with your neighbours, ask them if they'd mind you plugging your 360 into their HDMI tv to test your box...

It's HDMI to HDMI.
I tried unplugging the tv, no luck.

What's a HDCP handshake? Someone mentioned it somewhere....not really sure what it is :/
