Default Finally upgraded.

After 3 months using a dm500 i thought it was time i moved up. Ive been itching to upgrade to HD since a got the dm500, so today have bought a dm800hd. It should arrive next week.

So just wondering, whats the most popular (best) image used on this box ?

Im planning on installing a hdd in it, does the hdd have to be wiped or can i wipe it from the dreambox itself. Can it be ntfs or does it have to be fat32 ?

Thats about it for now, cant wait for it to arrive so i can have a play with it.

The HDD will be formatted from the box to a Linux file system which I think its EXT 3

I personally prefer the EDG nemesis image but this image requires a bit more work after you have installed it.

However this is user preference of course. As an example Linc prefers Black-hole image I believe that is what it's called.

I used the Open Pli image in the past and liked that one as well.

Thanks for the reply unadkat. Also, been reading and whats the best way to flash ? Through ftp or rs232 ?

For the dm500 i used rs232 + dreamup, however for this one apparently i would need a patched version of dreamup ?

What i would like to be able to do is to schedule records. eg, record at a specific time everyday, and only keep eg. last 5 episode ?
Is there an image that can do that or is that asking too much ? Sorry but never used a pvr box.

I think im swaying towards dreamelite blackhole, at least to start with.

From what am aware is that you can only record channel that your watching, I think you do the schedule recordings but I have never tested the theory out mate as I don't record anything.

Flashing the box... Avoid using dream up to flash the box unless its bricked then you use dream up mate. Flashing via RS232 using Dreamup will take 60mins!

Flashing via FTP never worked for me as I tried using Flash wizard and didn't work.

Otherwise you use the web UI and flash it that way. It takes less then 5 mins

Enjoy!

You can flash with Dreamup if you use RS232 AND the Ethernet as the upload is over the Ethernet and quite quick. You can also use Optiflasher, but for most the Web UI is the best.

Most Images have a timer to schedule recordings but you will have to manually delete old recordings.

The HDD can usually be initialized from the box itself, that process should format the drive and setup the links.

Also another question, would a HDD be okay for epg data. Or should i use a flash drive for that ?

Im probably going to have to wait for hard drive prices to come down before i buy one though.

HDD is probably better than a USB flash drive.

You're right about the HDD prices, the floods in Thailand have certainly rocketed them up.
