Default DVD-ROM/CD-RW drive

Hi

just updating my last post as i have found a peculier thing, when i searched the properties of both my dvd drive & my hard drive they both had the same serial numbers ie toshibaMK1237GSX ATA device ? is this possible, as to my DVD/ RW it is not reading any data or writing but it is showing up in my computer but not in device manager.

Any idea's please

Check in bios ( f1 or f2 at start up ) to see if its showing and not disabled , check cables into mobo and drive, also in device manager check the driver is ok. i would check driver first see if you can update on line.

if the drive is defective then it would happen. I have seen instances where a drive is not detected due to windows causing the issue.

I would advice you try system restore a date when it was working. The problem usually happens in Windows XP.
