No problems
I do advice you that you should create a partition when you format the hard drive and also do have a play about with Partition magic mate, because it will help you in situations like your in currently.

I did miss that part.
Then it is a hardware problem for sure. Not sure if flashing the BIOS to a newer firmware will help.
There is a strong possibility that the controller is damaged
