DVD-ROM/CD-RW drive missing

I know i have been here b4 with this one but i have tried since i was here to fix it myself but now i just don't know whats next. My dvd drive is not showing in bios / device manager ? it has stopped reading & writing door still opens & sounds like it wants to start reading a disc but notning. I have tried various web fixes but nowt works, i have also tried the microsoft fix it but it keeps reporting no dvd rom drive found ? I simply cannot understand it, in desperation I brought another drive from ebay brand new but nothing. Is there anybody on here who can help please?

The problem is most likely related to your Operating system mate.

I would advice that you format and reinstall the OS and then see if any changes.

Thats what i was thinking but dont want to loose files or unless i can borrow a external hhd

Get usb converter which converts a laptop drive into a usb and then plug that into the desktop machine

Backup up the data and then format it.

Or

Use partition magic and partition the hdd within Windows and drag the data onto the partition u created.

You wontose data as long as the laptop battery does not die.

It's easy mate as it is all gui based.
The converter I can show u which one to buy
