Why not stream direct to tv if you have HDMI connection on your pc ?
You can buy a reasonable priced graphics card with HDMI if you havnt.

Its from a PC at the other end of the living room its about 20ft away. just thought that as I have a network cable running to the KV box it would be an easy fix to play any downloaded films / programs to the TV via the KV box..

Instead of running a new wire through your living room!
Why not get a cheep DVD Player with a USB Port.

Or a cheep Stand Alone Media Player that will play MKV files

Then you can copy a movie or two to a USB Key
And watch it through The DVD or Media Player !

For AVI Files to Play, Just look for the little DivX Logo
On any DVD/Media Payer You Get to make sure its compatible!

I use a WD TV Live - Media Player as it connects directly to the Internet
And will play most Video Files!

You can also stream from your PC through your existing network cable
Via a Router to a WDTV Live then HDMI to your TV
