Coding And Testing For iOS 5.0.1 Untethered Jailbreak On iPhone... COMPLETE!

Jailbreaking enthusiasts have been waiting anxiously for an untethered jailbreak for iOS 5/5.0.1 and they will be happy to know that it is now closer to release. Details after the jump!



The news comes straight from the official blog of eminent iOS hacker and discoverer of exploitspod2g in the form of a short post in which he discusses the state of his untethered jailbreak for iOS 5 and iOS 5.0.1.

According to his latest post, the coding and testing for the latest iOS devices (save for, sadly, the iPhone 4S, iPad 2 and iPhone 4 CDMA) is complete.

This basically means that his untethered jailbreak is working successfully for these devices and that all that stands between the untethered jailbreak and you – the jailbreaking enthusiast – is pod2g’s packaging of his code and his final decision to release it.

From Pod2G’s Official Blog:

IPhone 3Gs 5.0.1 jb worked.
Remaining to test: iPod 4G & iPhone 4 CDMA running 5.0.1.
Also, I’ve tested iPad 1 and it worked.
Now the time to finalize the jailbreak for old devices, fix some stability issues and package the whole.That will take some days.
In the meanwhile, I’m starting the research for iPad 2 and 4S. I’ll take you informed of my progress.

As of right now, based on Pod2g’s tweets and blog posts, the state of iOS 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak on various iOS devices is:

• iPod touch 3G on iOS 5.0.1
• iPhone 4 (GSM) on iOS 5.0.1
• iPhone 4 (CDMA) on iOS 5.0.1 (Not Tested Yet)
• iPad 1 on iOS 5.0.1
• iPhone 3GS on iOS 5.0.1
• iPod touch 4G on iOS 5.0.1 (Not Tested Yet)
• Apple TV on iOS 4.4.3 (Not Tested Yet)
• iPhone 4S and iPad 2 (Not Tested Yet)

Once final work is done for these devices, pod2g will move to working to make it work for the iPhone 4S and iPad 2.




Pod2G’s untethered jailbreak for iOS 5/5.0.1 is likely based on either a user-land or a kernel based exploit.

Such exploits are software-based, which means that once Apple engineers discover it, they can patch the exploit by releasing an update to iOS.

Until the untethered jailbreak is released, your only option is to apply tethered jailbreak using Redsn0w, Sn0wbreeze, or Ac1dSn0w on iOS 5.0/5.0.1.

Since jailbreak on iOS 5 is currently limited to tethered boot only, you can install ‘SemiTether’ patch from Cydia to make your jailbreak semi-tethered on iOS 5.

I think it be few months before untethered jailbreak for iOS 5/5.0.1 is out still lot of work to be done.

it will be out much sooner than most people anticipated - still some testing to be done in my opinion but we are nearing the end - the guy that has hacked it is a reliable source. So just waiting for a release.

it will be released when the chronic devs want it to be and apple are so adamant noone can hack there A5 processors that they have relesed an unencrypted ipsw for the 4s. from what i gather wont be too much help towards an untethered jb but could grant access to apples siri server for any device on ios5
